What are the dangers of postmodernism?

GotQuestions Bible questions answered https://www.gotquestions.org/ All rights reserved-Published with permission Simply put, postmodernism is a philosophy that affirms no objective or absolute truth, especially in matters of religion and spirituality. When confronted with a truth claim regarding the reality of God and religious practice, postmodernism’s viewpoint is exemplified in the statement “that may be true for you, but not for me.” While such a response may be completely appropriate when discussing favorite foods or preferences toward art, such a mindset is dangerous when it is applied to reality because it confuses matters of opinion with matters of truth. The term “postmodernism” literally means “after modernism” and is used to philosophically describe the current era which came after the age of  modernism . Postmodernism is a reaction (or perhaps more appropriately, a disillusioned response) to modernism’s failed promise of using human reason alone to better mankind and make

Why pray?

GotQuestions Bible questions answered https://www.gotquestions.org/ All rights reserved-Published with permission For the Christian, praying is supposed to be like breathing, easier to do than to not do. We pray for a variety of reasons. For one thing, prayer is a form of serving God ( Luke 2:36-38 ) and obeying Him. We pray because God commands us to pray ( Philippians 4:6-7 ). Prayer is exemplified for us by Christ and the early church ( Mark 1:35 ;  Acts 1:14 ;  2:42 ;  3:1 ;  4:23-31 ;  6:4 ;  13:1-3 ). If Jesus thought it was worthwhile to pray, we should also. Another reason to pray is that God intends prayer to be the means of obtaining His solutions in a number of situations. We pray in preparation for major decisions ( Luke 6:12-13 ); to overcome demonic barriers ( Matthew 17:14-21 ); to gather workers for the spiritual harvest ( Luke 10:2 ); to gain strength to overcome temptation ( Matthew 26:41 ); and to obtain the means of strengthening others spiritually ( Ephesians 6:18-

Will we remember our earthly lives when we are in Heaven

GotQuestions Bible questions answered https://www.gotquestions.org/ All rights reserved-Published with permission Isaiah 65:17  says, “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” Some interpret  Isaiah 65:17  as saying that we will have no memory of our earthly lives in heaven. However, one verse earlier in  Isaiah 65:16 , the Bible says, “For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes.” It is likely only our “past troubles” will be forgotten, not all of our memories. Our memories will eventually be cleansed, redeemed, healed, and restored, not erased. There is no reason why we could not possess many memories from our earthly lives. The memories that will be cleansed are the ones that involve sin, pain, and sadness.  Revelation 21:4  declares, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” The fact that

Who was responsible for Christ’s death?

Imagen
GotQuestions Bible questions answered https://www.gotquestions.org/ All rights reserved-Published with permission The answer to this question has many facets. First, there is no doubt the religious leaders of Israel were responsible for Jesus’ death.  Matthew 26:3–4  tells us that “the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.” The Jewish leaders demanded of the Romans that Jesus be put to death ( Matthew 27:22–25 ). They couldn’t continue to allow Him to work signs and wonders because it threatened their position and place in the religious society they dominated ( John 11:47–50 ), so “they plotted to take his life” ( John 11:53 ).   The Romans were the ones who actually crucified Him ( Matthew 27:27–37 ). Crucifixion was a Roman method of execution, authorized and carried out by the Romans under the authority of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor who sentenced

What is the key to truly knowing God?

Imagen
GotQuestions Bible questions answered https://www.gotquestions.org/ All rights reserved-Published with permission Within all of us there exists a strong desire to be known and to know others. The most important Person to know is our Creator. In fact, Jesus taught that eternal life is not just a span of time; it is a relationship: “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” ( John 17:3 ). The key to truly knowing God is found in what God has revealed about Himself in the Bible. He wants to be known (see  Acts 17:27 ). The problem is our sinfulness. We are all sinful ( Romans 3 ), and we fall short of the standard of holiness required to commune with God. We have “exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles” ( Romans 1:23 ). So, in order to truly know God, we must first acknowledge our sin and  repent  of it (see  Acts 3:19 ). In turning from si
